Tour of Yucatan

Photo Schlumpfs adventure was traveling in June 2010, approximately for about  2 weeks to Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. The tour was booked as a self-drive tour  through Meiers world travel and  led to the tracks and temples of  the Mayas. The pick up in  Cancun went smoothly. After  that, it went straight to knap 15  km away hotel. Early the next  morning the tour was going on.  The tour documents were  deposited in the hotel. 

Itinerary:

Cancun - Ek Balam - Merida - Celestune National Park - Campeche - Edzna -  Uxmal - Cichen Itza - Valladolid - Tulum - Cancun - Holbox. 

Country and people:

The pure Tour length without detours was a total of 1,400 kilometers occurs daily  about 200 km. But it was a total of nearly 1,900 kilometers driven. On track to win  a very good impression of the country, people and culture. The street kitchens  with flat-cut chicken, which were then grilled delicious were equally quirky us  beautiful as the friendliness of the people. All were  prepared for the arrival of tourists. In all hotels there was a delicious breakfast  included. The coffee was better than the dishwater in the neighboring country  United States. Overall, therefore, was a completely successful holiday week.  With one exception. The foothills of Hurricane Alex had now  arrived. But no matter. After the rain then the sun comes out again usually  sometime. Holbox is a holiday destination as there are no longer many. Few  hotels, nice beach bar. Fresh Lobster at affordable prices. Holbox is always worth  a visit. Das entspricht genau 5.125  Sonnenjahre. Konnten die Maya nicht weiterzählen oder glauben sie tatsächlich,  das nach Ablauf dieser Zeit die Welt untergeht?  Wie funktioniert der Kalender und welche Einteilungen hatte er?  Kin   bedeutet Tage Uinal  sind die Monate  Tun  entspricht einem Jahr von 360 Tagen  Katun  sind 20 Jahre   Baktun  steht dann für 20 * 20 Jahre, also 400 Jahre.  Die Zeitrechnung der Maya begann am 11. August 3114 vor unserer heutigen  Zeitrechnung. Der 13. Baktun war damit vollendet. Aber bekanntlich ist die Erde  nicht untergegangen oder von einem Kometen getroffen worden. Auch haben  sich keine großen Naturkatastrophen ereignet und schwere Seuchen und Kriege  sind auch ausgeblieben.  Dennoch waren die Maya die vermutlich ersten Astronomen, die exakt  Sonnenfinsternisse vorhersagen konnten. Eine faszienierende und zugleich  grausame Kultur, die zu manchen Sonnenfinsternissen bis zu 20.000 Menschen  opferte, in dem sie den Menschen das Herz bei vollem Bewusstsein  rausschnitten.
