Even more Maya. Even more Unesco Heritage of Humanity. To see more photoSchlumpfs adventure travel. The perfect pyramid of Chichen Itza was of course one ofthe long-awaited goals of this trip to Mexico. On Yucatan Chichen Itza Uxmal is next tothe most important legacy of the Mayas. The ruins of this city of high culture are morefrom the later Maya time. The city was built between the 8th and the 11th century. Atthat time, Chichen Itza must have played a major cultural and religious role. But todayis the city that is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988, is of greatimportance, at least for tourism. After Teotihuacan Chichen Itza is one of the mostimportant tourist destinations in Mexico and thus promises a high income. However, asis evident. Everything was commercialized here.
Derivation of the name Chichen Itza
The name Chichen Itza means "at the edge of the well of Itza. The fountain was theCeneote meant is adjacent to the site of cultural sites. The pyramid was called by the Spaniards "El Castillo". From the Mayan God Kukulkan, the building which, or Quetzalcoatl was consecrated. El Castillo is 30 meters high andhas a base edge length of 55 m. It rises more than 9 pyramid levels. A total of 365stairs are available. Photo Smurf Adventure wonders once why 365? Oh right, thenumber stands for one year.
The Pyramid of Chichen Itza
The pyramid is certainly the highlight of the cultural and otherwise not exactly lackingin cultural and spiritual structures. This depends not only on the fascinating design and the associated size together also the fact that the farm work indicates twice in the dayand Nachgleiche. One side of the pyramid of Chichen Itza is almost completelyverschlugen from the shadows just before sunset. Only the staircase is illuminated bythe sun. As a result, shadows projected onto the steps. The light volume bringstogether for a brief moment with the snake head at the bottom of the stairs and thenpresents a feathered serpent. Presumably, this effect was calculated by the cunningMaya. It is hardly to be assumed that this effect ausklüngelte back to a purerandomness in the construction.
Echo effect
This also applies to so-called echo effect. If you stand directly in front of one side ofthe pyramid and claps his hands, then the sound is further set back a few hundredmeters. He strengthened. The applause then sounds like such a volley of gunfire.
Kukulkan
The pyramid was dedicated to the god Kukulkan. This god was the god of resurrection, reincarnation among the Mayas. So it is hardly to be assumed that the light effect wasunplanned. According to legend Kukulkan comes from the great sea and perhapsreturn there one day. Another legend has it that will return again to earth at the time ofthe apocalypse. Kukulkan is in a busy God. He is also the deity of the four elements ofwater, air, earth and fire.
